Last Saturday we had the second flight from Bierges, for us 191 kilometer. The almost 25.000 pigeons from department 8 went around 10.50 hour and the arrived at our place 345 first to 5 for 1. This was good for the first in the association and the 39th in the circle.

Of the 10 hens knew there 8 to win prizes. Van Mieke flew there 2 cocks their price of the 4 pieces. Yesterday I vaccinated the young pigeons against smallpox with the brush. They are flying well and I hope that in a few weeks they will be ready for me to start training them.

The pigeons were changed yesterday 20 over 9 unloaded in Heusden Zolder for a flight almost ahead of us 139 kilometer. There was a showery weather and a north to northwest wind of approx 25 kilometers per hour. Our first pigeon arrived at 11 o'clock 22.06 and made a speed of 1142 meter per seconde.

This hen, of 310, is a direct Eijerkamp. Her father is Son Tramantane from Willem van Bruijn and the mother is Smokey Checker, an Eijerkamp van Loon, times the new Olympiad of Herenmans – Ceusters. The pigeons followed more quickly than last week and the last davin was gone 11 o'clock 58 home again.

Both in Association, Circle and Region Northeast of department 8 played 7 of the 10 hens their prize. From 4 Mieke's cocks had a little more difficulty with the first flight. Her first cock died 11 o'clock 40 and the last to 12 o'clock 57.

In any case, the pigeons followed suit faster than last week and that is a plus. So now on to the next flight.

14 april 2024

This year our flying team consists of: 10 hens and 4 cocks. I play with the hens and Mieke with the cocks. Of this 14 pigeons are there 6 that last season alone 4 have done naturflights. Three of these pigeons were not trained as youngsters and were only raced on these natural flights as yearlings.

The pigeons were delivered yesterday in Beek en Donk, just none 80 kilometer, at half 10 discharged. Our hen, of 802, arrived at 10 o'clock 17 in 1 second and thus achieved a large score 1698 meters per minute. This turned out to be a very early pigeon in the circle.

The rest of the pigeons ended up disappointingly poorly. From 6 inexperienced pigeons, who only flew the late tour last year, were the last to arrive at our loft.

Direction Arnhem part 2

Today we went to the motocross track in Arnhem again. I had some doubts at first, because there was a very strong tailwind. But we took a chance anyway, because I have no more options for the rest of the week.

The pigeons took about ten minutes longer today than yesterday. They probably blew through for a while with the strong wind. Once again, according to the clock, they arrived very quickly.

Within fourteen seconds all the pigeons were clocked again. We now hope that it is Saturday, when the pigeons go to Beek and Donk, about eighty kilometers, that the weather will be good and we will have a good flight.

9 april 2024

Yesterday the 10 racing hens and 4 Mieke's planes were unloaded at the motocross track in Arnhem. Distance maximum 20 kilometer. They were inside 19 minutes home.

According to the clock, entering was no problem at all because inside 35 seconds they were all inside. Maybe again tomorrow if the weather permits.

We did not participate in the first training flight of this season. Pigeon friend Arjan Zoetbrood told us during the weekly coffee hour on Friday morning that it was not certain whether basketing could take place in our association due to insufficient interest.. I then decided not to participate because I would have to basket elsewhere in another association.

Moreover, Arjan did, who always baskets my pigeons, not myself either. And I didn't want to burden him with having to travel alone with my pigeons. Since I can only take the pigeons away if there is home help, I hope that tomorrow afternoon the weather will be good to take the pigeons to Arnhem myself.

Last week I had the racing pigeons checked by vet Kaspering in Emst and also vaccinated for paramyxo. Today, as shown in the video, I released the second round of young pigeons for the first time. After half an hour we suddenly received a visit from Mrs. Sparrowhawk.

She took a young one from the roof, tried to fly away with it, I ran after it and she happily let go of the cub. And I was able to pick it up off the ground in a corner between the aviaries. The young pigeon inspected, there was nothing else wrong with it, Let's hope she isn't too shocked by that.

Next Friday we will participate in a training flight for the first time. I will keep you informed how that goes.

19 March 2024

The intention is to occasionally post something about the ins and outs of my pigeon loft on the site in the future.. Yesterday the youngsters from the first round were outside for the first time. walked around on the roof. Being 11 pieces. And I had the second round yesterday in a different department 15 pieces weaned.

And the last ones will arrive in a few days 7 there. And with the 33 we'll just have to try to harvest a total of them this year. Hopefully we'll have a few left for next season.

The old pigeons, the racing pigeons, they are separated and come from 3 outside every day in March. And they can fly there as long as they want. They are in place from the last natural flight to 1 March indoors due to the danger of birds of prey. We, I will provide another update in a while.
